On the 24th of Jan I jetted off to Tenerife to meet my new teammates for a 2 week training camp. The first day was just about settling in for me, as I had got the late flight. So I unpacked, built up my bike and enjoyed the view by the pool.
Week 1 was more efforts based, because I was there for 2 weeks I kept the efforts below threshold. Whereas the riders who were there for just a week were pushing threshold and above. In the first week we managed to do 21hr 30mins training, 530km and 13,000m elevation.
Week 2 started with a well earned rest day. My teammate Jack and I headed to Los Cristianos for the day. It was nice to spend the day away from the bikes and explore a different side of Tenerife. But then it was back to training. This second week was mainly about racking up the K's and sorting out my pale legs :) In the end we did 26hrs, 650km and 20,000m elevation.
Looking back on the camp now, it was an amazing chance to get some solid training in away from the miserable weather in the UK. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet my teammates for next year and gel together, instead of meeting each other at the first national race. It was also nice to meet all the riders on each of the different teams and gain knowledge from the more experienced riders.
Finally a big shout out to GeoTenerife for being the best hosts and to Tamsin for running around after us for 2 weeks.
