Since I wrote last I have got my head down and have done some quality training and racing.
Most of my racing this month has been crit racing, However the Northen Road Race Scene has now started. I took part in the first 2 road races of the year, The CV Spring Classic where I finished 19th in a strong field. I animated the race towards the end to try and get away but there was no cohesion so nothing was sticking. It ended in a bunch sprint. Next for me was the Bickerstaffe RR. The race started of real easy. Everyone seemed very cagey and no attacks were going. The first big attack went on the 3rd lap just before the first prime. I thought nothing of the prime but the attack looked dangerous so I put in a dig to get across to it. I got across and rolled over the line first picking up the prime. I then carried on the dig up the drag passed the finish line. 2 riders came across to me but the bunch was not letting it go. We got caught so I sat back to catch my breath. Unknown to me a group of 4 had gone up the road I was caught. They manged to stay away all the way to the finish. In the final few laps me and 1 other rider attacked of the front we stayed away for 6KM but the bunch brought us back again. I stayed in the top 10 or so riders as i knew it was going to be a sprint.
I was in 6th wheel coming out of the last corner, a bit boxed in on the outside of the turn. But a gap opened up infront of me and I followed them. I then kicked out of the swooping bend and went all out to the line. I just missed out on the bunch sprint win by half a tyre width.
The local crit series has started again. I finished 9th in the first round after some poor positioning coming into the final lap. I'm looking forward to racing more of these in the coming weeks
After this race, I had a week in Anglesey for a family week away. This allowed me to get some quality training in and a short break from racing as I have raced every week for 9 weeks. The training on Anglesey is amazing. The views are great and the roads are nearly perfect for training on. Every ride I have done has ended at around 2000m elevation gain but if you went searching for it, you could easily rack up 3000m+.
Coming up I have the 3rd and 4th round of the junior national series. A couple of hillier courses which I'm looking forward to. Round 4 being the Yorkshire classic which is being held on last years National Champs course. Following these I will be racing the local crit series and hopefully a few local Time Trials.
Once again a very big thank you to Pedal Potential and Withington Physiotherapy for supporting me this season :)
